“What if I don’t want to stop?” she teased. “How quickly can you finish?”

A few seconds later, the sound of a door closing upstairs registered. Then footsteps. Given that I was currently hard as a rock, this was not good.

Abby jumped off of me.

“Fuck!” I shot up off the couch and covered my crotch. Heading straight for my shoes, I put them on as quickly as possible.

Abby’s face was crimson. “Where are you going?”

“I can’t greet him like this. I’m going for a morning walk.” I practically flew out the door, awkwardly waving to the old-man neighbor who was letting his dog out. Thank God I was wearing a shirt. Otherwise, I might not have had time to put one on before Roland came downstairs.

Strolling the neighborhood aimlessly, I kept thinking about how hot last night had been in the shed. Our situation was serious, yet Abby had a way of making me forget my problems—even if she was part of my biggest problem lately. Not a bad problem to have, though. When I was with her, nothing else seemed to matter—even if it needed to start mattering.

My phone rang a couple of minutes into my walk.

“Abby! However are you?” I answered. “Long time no speak.”

“How’s your situation?” she asked.

“My situation is not going down. What the hell did you do to me? It’s like you slipped me some of your father’s Viagra.”

“Oh no.” She giggled.

“Stop laughing. This is serious. Your neighbors are going to think I’m a pervert.”

“You are.”

“Only with you, love.” I looked up at the sun, still feeling like a dog in heat. “We need to go somewhere. Take care of this. Fancy a quick car ride? We can figure it out. As long as you’re on top of me, I don’t care where we go. I’ll fuck you in the car, if I have to.”

“Your romantic side is so on point right now.”

“You have a better option?”

“Actually, that sounds like a great idea. I’ll tell my dad we’re headed out to get coffee…and donuts.”

“Donuts? Is that our new code word?”

“Sure. They have holes, I suppose.”

“There’s only one hole I want. Well, maybe three. And damn it, I’m hard as a rock once more. I may never be able to see your father again.”

“Hurry.” She laughed. “I’ll be waiting for you outside. You won’t even have to come in.”

I picked up my pace. “Heading around the block to your house now.”

The minute I spotted her, it was like seeing her for the first time. My heart sped up, and I simply couldn’t wait to kiss her.

“There you are.” She opened her arms and ran to me, beaming from ear to ear. I lifted her up as she wrapped her legs around my waist, our lips smashing together. Worst case, her father might’ve been watching from the window, but he was apparently on to us anyway. There were worse things than him catching us. And I mean that quite literally.

There were worse things. Because just as we broke our kiss, a car pulled into the driveway. Whoever it was had seen our public spectacle. And when I got a look at who it was, I just about died.

Phil and Kate.

Sig

Track 39: “Secret Lovers” by Atlantic Starr

A rush of adrenaline shot through me. What are they doing here?

Abby and I froze the moment her feet landed on the ground again.

Britney’s parents had been down in Florida for the past several months, taking care of Phil’s mother. While we’d kept in touch regularly over the phone, neither I nor Abby had told them anything about what had happened between the two of us. I hadn’t planned to hide it from them, but I would’ve appreciated them finding out any other way than this.

“You devil, you,” Phil said as he exited the driver’s side.

“Phil…” I swallowed before turning to his wife. “Kate…” My heart had never pounded so hard.

“It’s so good to see you,” Abby said, trying to remain casual, running a hand through her hair.

I wanted to laugh. Good to see you? I would’ve rather had a root canal.

Kate smiled hesitantly. “I guess there’s a lot to catch up on, huh?”

You could cut the awkwardness with a knife. I had a lot of explaining to do. Needless to say, any plans to disappear with Abby for car sex were off the table. “A lot to catch up on indeed,” I told them. “I didn’t realize you were back in the northeast.”

“We just got back after settling Marjorie in her new place down in Naples,” Kate explained. “We figured before we went home to Massachusetts, we’d stop here to check on Roland. We booked a hotel down the road for a few days so we could relieve Abby. We certainly didn’t know you were here, Sig.”

“I flew over on a whim yesterday.”
