And hey, the fact that it was a vampire was going to make this much easier. Yeah. This was the way it had to happen. The only way it was going to happen.

Callum let his shirt fall to the ground, and he inhaled sharply as that hard, aggressive stare went over his upper body. When his hands went to his fly, he paused.

“You know what,” he murmured, “I think I’ll let you do this part. With those fangs of yours.”

Stepping onto the tile, he had his boots on and didn’t care. He didn’t care about anything—until he glanced up at the showerhead. For a split second, he lost his connection to the sexual charge, images he had worked hard not to see every waking minute taking over.

“I’m not going to beg you for it.”

The deep, tension-filled voice refocused him. And even still, he had to clear his throat. “Fine. The begging can come later.”

Pushing aside everything but the vampire who was currently under the water, Callum stepped into the spray, and the second the other male’s powerful body shuddered, he knew he was doing the right thing—for the both of them. And then he touched the slick, smooth chest, running his hands down from the collarbones to the pecs… to the abs. The rain sounds of the water got very loud as he did it again, feeling the muscles, the warmth, the skin.

“What do you like, vampire?”

When there was no answer, he glanced up to that face. The male was staring down at Callum’s fingertips as they traveled over his body, and the expression on his face was one of… wonder.

As if this was a revelation.

Except that couldn’t be true.

Closing the distance between them, Callum tilted his head and put his mouth to the side of the vampire’s throat. His reward was another shudder, and he took that as a green light. He kissed the collarbone, running his canines over the curl of bone. Then he sank into his thighs and nuzzled the sternum. The water that fell on the vampire tasted of the male and he licked at the droplets, catching them on his tongue, swallowing.

He glanced up to make sure he wasn’t misreading anything.

Nope. They’d both opened this book to the same page.

The eyes that were always so aggressive were open wide, the vulnerability in them the kind of thing that no doubt revealed more than the male would have wanted—except he was so caught up in what was going on that his defenses were down.

More with the descent of his mouth, until Callum was at the hip bones, the graceful arch of the male’s pelvis accentuated by a flare of muscle… that, when he followed it, brought him right where he wanted to go.

And yet he took his time, his lips drifting slowly to his destination as he got onto his knees. Well, what do you know. He was the perfect height.

Stretching his arms around the male, he stroked the ass he had admired. Then cupped it—and opened his mouth wide.

As he sucked that erection down, the response was violent, the vampire bucking into a thrust that pushed his arousal even deeper into Callum… whose lips stretched to accommodate the girth. And the withdrawal was just as immediate, the pelvis jerking back, the suction making the male moan and thrust again.

All Callum had to do was hang on and catch a breath when he could.

The pumping went from slow to fast, and when he looked up as the vampire looked down, their eye contact was a huge part of the out-of-control.

It went without saying that things didn’t take long.

As the male got closer and closer to a release, he lost the ability to keep those burning eyes of his open, and then the orgasm tackled him. With a powerful arch, he reached up and back, grabbing on to the showerhead, holding tightly as his cock released into Callum’s mouth, the hard length kicking and contracting, spilling a heavy load, as if it had been a long, long time since any pleasure had been had—

Callum froze as he focused on the way those hands gripped the stainless-steel fixture mounted into the tile.

The break with the here and now was a body blow, and he tried to close his own eyes so he could keep connected to this present that he was enjoying so very much. But he couldn’t maintain the link. As he swallowed, and swallowed again, he was numb as he looked at that grip.

The water hitting his face took care of his tears.

Good thing, too.

The vampire wasn’t the only one with things to hide.

CHAPTER TWENTY

Here. Have an apple slice.”

Sometimes, all you could do for someone was the simplest thing, either because that was all you had to give or that was all they could afford to take. And as Kane sat back down on the sofa, he held a piece of a bright red apple out to Nadya, wishing he could take his question back. Her past was not something she owed him.
