The man who had beaten her before even getting to this junkyard was also dead. He didn’t get a chance to beg for his life though.

She squeezed her eyes tightly as another wave of cramps flooded her stomach.

I can do this.

It’s fine.

I’m so sorry, my baby. My darling.

She sniffled, hating everything.

When she heard the unmistakable sound of motorbikes, she heard the laughter in Garofalo’s voice, and the victory in Vigo’s.

Ugly Beast had walked right into their trap.

Opening her eyes, all she saw was her sister, turned to face her, lifeless. There was nothing in her eyes, no recognition.

It broke her heart. No matter how much they quarreled, they were still sisters, and she loved her sister.

Always would.

She would have loved to have been an auntie.

If only Chantel had confided in her, she would have been able to keep her sister safe. Not now. Not anymore.

There was no keeping her sister safe.

“Well, well, well, what do we have here?” Garofalo asked, looking toward the entrance to the junkyard.

Smokey, Ugly Beast, Hunter, Kinky, and so many others of the Hell’s Bastards stood there, staring. To Abriana, they looked terrifying. All of them were focused on the men who stood, looking rather smug.

The monsters who had taken so much from her. Tears swam in her vision, and she bit her lip to try to contain the sobs that threatened to spill.

“So, you think you can take us?” Garofalo asked. “You have no idea what you’re messing with.”

“Oh, I know what I’m messing with,” Smokey said, taking a step forward. “You took club property.”

“My daughter isn’t club property. She’s a traitor and has been treated exactly how her kind is supposed to be.” Vigo pointed in her direction.

She stared at Ugly Beast. He looked ready to kill, to slaughter, to murder.

In a weird way, the look on his face offered her a little comfort. He wanted to protect her, and she wanted to be protected.

Touching her stomach, she closed her eyes, trying to stop the pain, but it wouldn’t stop. Even her lips were hurting.

“You made a mistake taking her,” Ugly Beast said.

She opened her eyes as he stepped forward, shocked by the sheer rage she heard in his voice.

His gaze was on her, not once staring at the men.

If he didn’t care about her, why did it look like he wanted to murder them? She could barely move.

“You’re willing to risk all-out war over this slut?” Vigo asked.

“Close your eyes, Abriana, baby. I’ll be done soon. No matter what, you don’t open them.”

She nodded her head, and he waited.

Closing her eyes, squeezing them tight, she heard the fighting. The screams, the yells, the sudden fighting, and the gunshots. She didn’t know what was going on, but she trusted Ugly Beast. He promised to protect her.

She covered her face with her hand so she wasn’t even tempted, hoping and praying he’d make it.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, someone slowly picked her up.

She screamed.

“It’s me,” Ugly Beast said.

“I want to die. Please, kill me.”

“I’m not going to kill you.”

She cried. “I’m worthless. I lost it. I know I lost it. Please, Ugly Beast, I’m not worth it.”

“You belong to me, Abriana.”

“I’m not strong enough.”

She knew the club was silent as he carried her across the junkyard. What surprised her was when Sebastian Drago stopped them.

“I’m so sorry, Abriana,” he said.

“Kill me, please. Someone, kill me. I want to die.” She couldn’t fight Ugly Beast as he carried her away, ignoring her pleas for death.

She’s lost the only good thing in this world, her baby.

What was the point of living?

The pain finally consumed her, and she was able to fall into blissful peace.

Chapter Sixteen

“She looks a fucking mess,” Ugly Beast said, staring into the hospital room where his wife was hooked up to tubes.

She’d lost too much blood, suffered a broken arm, shattered ankle, a miscarriage, and a concussion. Her face was covered in bruises, not to mention her body. Not a part of her wasn’t hurt in some way.

So far, she’d slept through most of the pain, which he was relieved about.

Smokey grabbed his shoulder. “We’re all here for you, brother. She’s part of the club. You need to get some rest.”

“Not happening.”

“Ugly Beast.”

“No. You heard what she said. She wants to die because she knows what she lost. I’m not leaving her. Not now.”

“You don’t have to stay married to her,” Smokey said. “This didn’t end the way I wanted it to, but there’s no reason for you to stay married to her.”

“What the fuck was your plan?” Ugly Beast asked. He’d done what Smokey had said, and look what happened. Abriana had been hurt, and their child was dead.

“I had every intention of forming an allegiance with Garofalo’s people. By binding our club with his made men, it made our territory stronger. I had no idea he’d reach out to the Twisted Bastards. We know how volatile they can be.”
