“I would love that. Perhaps you could read me a book?”
“We should read our book again before someone asks to have it next,” he suggested. “I think I need to take some notes this time. I’m looking at the author’s suggestions in a totally different light now that we’re sharing homes together.”
“What kind of notes?” Maisie said suspiciously.
“There are several suggestions about how to take care of a grumpy Little. Or one that doesn’t feel well.”
“Daddy, no! I remember that section. I didn’t ever comment there. I hoped you hadn’t read it.”
“Oh, I read it. I just need to refresh my memory. I think he suggested a routine of daily monitoring to make sure that a Little felt her best every day. I ordered a few supplies. We’ll try out the thermometer this evening and the vitamins tomorrow morning,” Beau stated.
“Not the suppositories?” she gasped.
“They’re a little bigger than I expected them to be. I was interested that the company he recommends is still in business. Looks like that owner’s adult children have continued to provide for the health needs of Littles. I sent a message to Colt and Rio. Their supplies arrive later this week.”
“You didn’t!”
“You want Amber and Harper to feel good, don’t you? Rio’s house is almost finished. We’ll arrange a playdate for the three of you when everyone is moved in.”
Beau reached out to raise Maisie’s lower jaw back into place when she stared at him in shock. “Little girls need friends. Colt, Rio, and I are pleased that you already have lifelong friends to enjoy in this special way.”
He glanced out the window and announced, “We’re home, Maisie. Let’s go inside and get your fancy clothes taken off. You didn’t eat much tonight. Would you like a snack?”
“Do we have any noodles left?” she asked.
“We do. Noodles and some juice for my Little girl. Then a quick shower and bedtime.”
Unable to stop herself from yawning, Maisie nodded at her handsome Daddy. He always knew what she needed. He looped her high heels over his finger and scooped her up in his arms. Carrying her to the elevator and up to their apartment effortlessly, she relaxed in his arms with her head on his shoulder. An older couple got in on the ground level and rode with them. As Beau carried her from the car, Maisie heard the woman comment, “I knew I liked that senator for a reason. He knows how to care for the ones he loves.”
Maisie kissed her Daddy’s neck. He certainly does know how to care for me. She’d never had a doubt about how much he loved her.
“Did you mind waiting for the right time for us to be together, Daddy?” she asked when they got inside their private space.
“I would have waited for you until I breathed in my last breath, Little girl. This is our time, Maisie. I’m not going to wait another minute. I need to take care of you.”
He carried her to one of the bar chairs at the island. Placing her comfortably in one, he poured her some juice and snapped a lid on it before putting it in front of her. “Drink.”
“Yes, sir!” she said with a salute that made him laugh.
He pulled a casserole dish out of the refrigerator and scooped up a healthy portion. Before he could put it in the microwave, she suggested, “More, Daddy.”
“You are hungry, Little girl.” He quickly added another heaping pile to her plate and placed it in the microwave to heat. By the time he had the dish back in the refrigerator, the microwave dinged.
He carried it around the island to take a seat next to her. Maisie breathed in deeply when he tucked a napkin in the front of her formal dress. His fingers brushing against the swell of her breasts made her feel not so tired anymore.
“Eat, Little girl,” he said, holding a bite to her lips.
Maisie opened her mouth and let him feed her. She loved how much he wanted to do for her. “Daddy? Do you ever get tired of helping me? You know… do you want me to not be your Little girl some days?”
Beau looked at her in surprise and lowered the fork to focus on her. Slowly, he shook his head. “My last wish every night before I go to bed is to have another day with you, Little girl. Are you feeling confined by your life as my Little?”
“No. I like it. You know—most of it. I don’t like the spankings or the reminder plugs. It feels strange to have you take such good care of me sometimes.”
“Oh. I understand that,” he said and placed another bite into her mouth. “You’re a very capable adult woman. Almost everything I do for you is something you could do for yourself.”
“I like you taking care of me. It’s special.”
