Every swipe of his tongue and nip of his teeth, every curl of his lips and thrust of his hips is his way of telling me how much he loves and wants and needs me. I’m enough just as I am. And if his actions weren’t enough, he murmurs the words against my lips as we both find our release.
When our hearts have slowed and we’ve had a moment to catch our breaths, he pulls back slightly, taking his warmth with him. His gaze meets mine, but instead of seeing a man in love, all I see is remorse. “I’m sorry,” he murmurs, shaking his head. “I’m so sorry…”
“For wh—” But before I can finish my question, I feel it… his cum leaking out of me.
We had sex again without protection, and he’s blaming himself.
I wait for the worry to creep into my thoughts, but the only thing that pops into my head is the idea of Pierce and me having a baby together. And I know in this moment that he’s the one for me. I already knew, but the fact that I’m not freaking out over the possibility of getting pregnant just reconfirms it.
“Stop,” I tell him, locking eyes with him. “We were caught up in the moment, and I practically begged you to do it.” I sit up and wrap my arms around him, climbing into his lap, not caring that we’re both sweaty and sticky. He turns us so he’s sitting against the headboard and holds me close. “Besides,” I continue, “we agreed not to waste any more time, right?”
His face lights up with hope, and my heart swells in my chest. Yep, he’s the one.
“What are you saying?” he asks, needing the words from me.
“I want to marry you, Pierce, and I don’t want to wait. Name the time and place, and I’ll be there.”
“Christmas,” he says, as if he’s already thought this through.
“You want a Christmas wedding?” I ask, letting the idea sink in.
“It’s fitting. You moved here because Jordan loves Christmas. Had she not, we never would’ve met, and I’d still be alone, wishing for you. It’s like it was meant to be.”
I run my fingers through his hair and nod in agreement. “Christmas.”
“Fuck, yes,” he growls, lifting me off him and throwing me onto the mattress. He climbs over me, grabbing my hands and pinning them above my head. “On Christmas, you’ll be mine.”
CHAPTER TWENTY
PIERCE
Sweet scent, warm flesh, soft snoring, auburn hair splayed across my pillow. I lie in bed with Kelsie asleep next to me. She fell asleep with her head on my chest and her leg thrown over mine. But she moved off me at some point during the night, allowing me to wake up and watch her.
Fuck, I can’t believe she’s agreed to marry me. I also can’t believe I asked without a damn ring. She deserves better than that, and despite her already saying yes, I’m going to do it right. The stores are closed today, but once they open, I’ll find a ring that’s worthy of her. Then, I’ll properly ask her to marry me.
“If you take a picture, it lasts longer,” she rasps, opening one eye and smiling lazily at me.
“If you insist.” I grab my phone and snap a picture, then another.
“Pierce! I was joking,” she whines, burrowing her face into the pillow for several seconds before lifting her head and glaring my way. “I can’t even imagine how rough my bedhead is right now.”
“You look beautiful,” I tell her, making her roll her eyes at me.
When I try to pull her toward me so I can kiss her good morning, she shakes her head. “Morning breath,” she mutters, trying to escape my grip.
“Don’t care.” I fist the back of her head and bring her face to mine for a kiss. She gives in, swinging her leg over mine, and the morning kiss quickly turns into morning sex—and I could be biased, but I’m pretty sure that’s the best damn way to wake up.
“Mommy, is Pierce gonna be my new daddy?”
Jordan’s question has Kelsie and me both stopping what we’re doing to look over at her. After spending the morning in bed, we dressed and joined everyone at my parents’ place for a snow day. We rode the ATVs, made snowmen until the girls yawned in exhaustion, and then I brought them home. I planned to drop them off, but Kelsie invited me over for dinner, and I’d be a fool to turn down any time with my girls.
After laying Jordan down for a nap, Kelsie and I cuddled on the couch to watch a movie. It’s been nice spending the past few nights with her, and I’m dreading going home—or worse, to the station.
When the movie ended, Kelsie got up to start dinner, and I offered to help. She started cooking the chicken while I was chopping the veggies for the chicken noodle soup recipe.
