I nod, then lay my head on his chest. While we watch a show, Pierce runs his fingers through my hair and within minutes, I’m lost in my dreams.
I don’t know how long I’m asleep, but when I wake up, Pierce is gone, and the side he was lying on is cold.
Since he took the warmth with him, I pull my blanket tighter around me and then grab my phone from the nightstand—1:00 a.m.
I unlock my phone and text Pierce:
Kelsie
You should’ve stayed. I woke up, and you were gone.
Pierce
I thought we weren’t doing the sleepover thing until you guys move in with me.
He’s right. Despite Jordan saying she wanted to move in with him now, I told him I wanted to take things one step at a time.
Kelsie
I already miss you.
Pierce
I miss you more. I’ll see you tomorrow. Good night, sweetheart.
When I wake up again, it’s from a knock on the door. Half asleep, I shuffle to the front door and open it. And standing on the other side is Pierce carrying two coffees, a container of milk, and a bag that most likely has breakfast inside.
“Good morning,” he says, giving me a quick kiss as he passes by and goes straight to the table.
We enjoy breakfast, and once we’re dressed and ready for school and work, Pierce insists on taking us, refusing to let us walk.
“A girl can get used to this,” I tell him after he kisses me goodbye before I get out at the café. “Breakfast, a ride to work, and some morning love.” I flutter my lashes playfully, and he shakes his head, cupping the back of my head to kiss me again.
“You better get used to it,” he murmurs against my lips. “Get used to it and expect it. Have a good day.”
Kelsie
I miss you. Wish you were here…
It’s day two of Pierce leaving in the middle of the night, and I hate it as much as I did the night before. He was at the café when I got off. We picked up Jordan and then spent the afternoon at home.
Today, he had Cinder with him, which made Jordan’s entire afternoon. While Pierce and Jordan played with Cinder in our backyard, I did some laundry and made dinner. Afterward, we played a board game, then it was time for bed. She begged for Cinder to sleep in her bed but compromised with her sleeping in her portable crate in her room.
When I woke up to pee, Pierce and Cinder were already gone, and I couldn’t help feeling like a piece of me was missing. After sharing a bed with him all those nights while Jordan slept at Sara’s and then Marta’s, I don’t want to go back to sleeping alone.
Pierce
Same. Only a couple of weeks and we’ll be able to sleep in the same bed.
Except for when he has to work, I think but don’t voice. Him having five days a week off is well worth the one night he’ll be sleeping away from the house, and it definitely beats our current situation.
Pierce
Speaking of which, my mom invited us to brunch on Sunday to discuss the wedding. You’re sure you’re okay with her and Sara helping you plan the wedding?
When he mentioned it to me, I felt so bad that not only would he be paying, but his mom and sister-in-law would have to take time out of their day to help me plan it, since I have no idea what I’m doing. He assured me they were both excited to do it. Thankfully, we agreed that it will be small. I have no family or friends, and since we’re doing it on Christmas, only Pierce’s family will be attending.
Kelsie
Of course!
Pierce
Good.
Kelsie
Still wish you were here. I woke up horny.
The second I press send, I cover my eyes, shocked that I even wrote that to him. I mean, it’s the truth, but it’s not like me to send something so brazen to a man. Then again, I never really experienced dating as an adult.
I’m waiting for Pierce to respond when my phone rings, making me practically jump out of my skin. Unlike my standard ringtone, it’s the one for video chatting.
“Hello,” I say slowly as Pierce comes across the screen. It’s dark where he is, but there’s enough light shining through that I can make out his gorgeous face and see that he’s not wearing a shirt.
“Hey, sweetheart,” he says, his voice raspy from sleep.
He turns onto his side and props the phone against something, giving me the perfect view of his face, pecs, and a little bit of his torso.
“So, you’re horny, huh?” He smirks devilishly, and my face heats up. With the bathroom light pouring into my room, he can make out my face, and based on the way his smirk morphs into a grin, I know he can tell I’m blushing.
