“We can close that chapter now too. You deserve every penny. He will forever remember the consequences of his actions,” he says.

“How?”

“I will always keep you safe and taken care of,” he replies, placing his hand on my belly. “Both of you.”

I turn to look up at him. His eyes are closed off. I know he’s not going to give me any further information about this.

“Thank you,” I say.

“Your brother is coming to hang out with me today. What are you getting up to?”

“I’m exhausted. I’m going to get in a nap because this little monster in there is determined to drain Mommy of all her energy,” I chuckle.

“Then come on. I’ll tuck you two in and play you a lullaby before Legend gets here,” he laughs back.

“Sounds good,” I yawn.

He scoops me up and starts upstairs. My lids are growing so heavy already. I blame the comfort of his big, strong arms.

“Maybe you should write an album for my children’s book,” I muse sleepily.

“Not a bad idea. We’ll talk about it later. That might be fun to do together.”

“We make a great team. Go, team SagaBish,” I cheer.

“Babe, that still sucks,” he rumbles with laughter.

I shrug. “Thought I’d still try.”

Placing me into the bed, he strips off his outside clothes and climbs in beside me. When his arm settles over me, I feel like I’m in a warm cocoon.

“What if I didn’t get on that bus?” I wonder as my sleepy thoughts bounce around in my head.

“I would’ve stayed right there at that diner until the next morning when we could’ve gotten you a tow. Then I would’ve followed you to the auto shop, where they would’ve told you the car was busted and I would’ve offered you a ride again,” he says with humor lacing his voice.

“In other words, I would have gotten on the bus one way or another.” I snicker.

“Damn right. You were the one, babe. I knew it then and I know it now. No matter what, we were always meant to be right here in the end.”

“Yeah, I was fired to get stranded. All so I could be your muse. Not a bad destiny at all.”

EPILOGUE

Anniversary

Bishop

We made it. Our first year as a married couple. Our sons were born three months ago and I couldn’t be happier with my life.

That is, until this moment. I can’t breathe. Saga looks so beautiful I might faint. She worked her ass off to fit into her gown for the wedding.

I loved her body after she gave birth to our boys, but she wanted to do this for herself. I just can’t believe I’m the lucky bastard who gets to call her my wife. She looks like a princess as she walks down the aisle in her gown which sparkles with each step.

Her brown shoulders are bare and her breasts are tastefully held with love and care by the fabric. Even swollen from feeding our sons she looks phenomenal. The fitted waist of the dress belies the fact that she was ever pregnant. Forget about being so three months ago with twins.

“You did good, bro,” Lord says beside me.

“I did, didn’t I?” I say with a throat clogged with emotions.

I look around at our family. Nothing but smiling faces around us. I still don’t know where the fuck Jag is. He got hammered last night and hasn’t shown up.

I don’t know if I’ll forgive him for this one, but everyone else that’s important to us made it. We made it. No one thought we would. A year ago, on this day, we had all the cards stacked against us.

“You two have proven me wrong and made me a proud grandfather,” my father-in-law says as he hands over my bride. “I want you to always remember this love right here. When life gets tough, remember the love you started with and always work together to find your way back to it.”

“We will,” Saga says shakily.

Her father kisses her cheek. “Finally. I’ve walked my princess into her future. I love you, sweet pea.”

“I love you too, Daddy.”

“Okay, Bishop. She’s all yours.”

“Thanks, Dad,” I say with a teasing grin.

“You’re welcome, son,” he says and pats my cheek.

I’m thrown for a moment. I wasn’t expecting his acceptance. I thought he’d joke that we still weren’t there yet.

“See, I told you he likes you,” Saga says sweetly.

“Yeah,” I say and nod. My throat too full of emotion to say more.

“Shall we sing our vows, Mr. Moran?”

I look at my wife and smile. We made our vows up from the hooks from the album I dedicated to her. It’s the perfect mix of who we are and what we mean to each other.

“I was born ready.”
