I open my mouth and then snap it shut.
“Thought so.”
“I am trained and specialized.”
“Well, I’m trained and specialized in being a woman. And as a woman, I know when a sister isn’t right. Tera’s got something up her sleeve.”
I take a few breaths, willing myself to calm down, and try to ask calmly, “Any idea where this woman’s intuition is leading?”
“Not yet, but with all that we’ve discovered tonight, the feeling is fiercer than ever. Listening to her talk, you’d think she’s on the fast track to being the next Primetime news anchor extraordinaire. Which is bullshit because Harley already covered that angle.”
I’m not the least bit surprised Harley’s knee-deep in this. “Covered that angle?”
“They’ve been talking like this all night. It’s like we’re about to film an episode of Hawaii Five-O.”
When I glance back at Rowan, her eyes are now dancing with enjoyment, and the irritation dissolves. “Hawaii Five-O?”
“You know, the show with the hot cops in a specialized division of the police—”
“I know the show. What I don’t understand is why you lot of women think you’re investigating.”
“Because we are. We’re investigating what Tera is up to.”
“You’re lucky you’re so fucking beautiful and that man out there is clearly interested in Shayla.”
Her smile spreads wide and she melts into me. “I love you.”
“That’s our cue to leave. It’s bad enough we had to endure the endless gushing over that necklace and knowing why she has a teeth imprint on her neck. I’ll puke if you make out.” Carson gives an exaggerated shiver.
“Tomorrow, we all sit down and talk. I want to know everything you picked up and your conversation. Then I’ll take it from here.”
Addie rolls her eyes and flicks her fingers at me before they turn to leave.
“Baby, how drunk are you?”
“Drunk enough to want to drag you into the ladies’ room and show you my appreciation for the gorgeous necklace. Are you up for that?”
My dick comes to life at the suggestion.
“You want to show me your appreciation, let me have your body all night in nothing but those diamonds.”
Her lips part and hands clutch at my shirt. “I really, really like that idea.”
“We’re leaving.” I take her hand and head back in the direction of the bar, coming to a stop when something she said earlier hits me.
I twist, hauling her to me, and press my lips to hers. “You were wrong earlier. I do not know if Tera’s tits are fake, but there is such a thing as a perfect chest. Every day I get a taste of that perfection.”
Her breath hitches as her gaze fills with wild hunger that speaks volumes. “How fast can you drive?”
My cock throbs, begging for one thing—the greedy savage searing through my veins.
I grin, deciding on a new plan. “You ever had sex in a truck?”
She shakes her head slightly. “Have you?”
“Not this truck. That’s about to change.”

ROWAN
“Honey, I’m home,” I call out and brace for the impact.
There’s a beat of silence before Pepper barrels through the living room, leaping at me. We fall back into the door, going to the ground and rolling in hugs and kisses.
“You know, we almost have her broken of that habit until she hears your voice.” Cruz scowls from the kitchen doorway.
“Don’t be a grump. It’s our thing.” I wrestle her once more before hauling myself up.
“He’s upset because we have to prove to Robbie and Thad that she’s improved before they will let us around the new baby.” Alex pushes by him and comes to embrace me. “Good to see you, Hollywood.”
The mention of my nickname does funny things to my stomach and my nose stings.
“Uh-oh, what’s wrong?” Cruz’s scowl grows concerned and Pepper whimpers against my calf.
“Nothing.” I wave him off.
“Liar.”
I try to think of a witty comeback or at least a solid excuse but come up blank.
“It’s stupid.”
“Stupid doesn’t exist in su casa unless we say so.”
“I miss hearing my nickname.”
Both study me, and Alex cups my elbow, leading me to the kitchen where a pitcher of something sits amid an island full of food. He salts the rim of a glass, fills it, and slides it my way. “When do they come back?”
I take a sip and instantly moan at the explosion of tangy citrus. “Oh my God, this is heavenly. What is it?”
“Mango margarita with key lime simple syrup. Now answer.”
“They came back Thursday morning. Long enough to unpack, repack, and head to their training weekend. Except Major. He took Margo and Jewls to Kentucky for a family baby shower. Everyone returns tomorrow.”
“Where are the girls?”
“Spread out. Harley has bands playing around the city this weekend, so she’s occupied. Shayla has been at the salon, but she’s picking up night shifts at Tom’s. Ginger…” I trail off, realizing how it sounds. “They’re busy,” I finish.
“You’re lonely,” Cruz assesses.
