He got out of bed and winced with each step he took into the spacious bathroom. God had the lights off and a couple candles lit on the outer rim of the Jacuzzi tub. He was already soaking, waiting for Day. Day licked his lips at the beads of water running down God’s chest.

God lifted one corner of his mouth at him and that was invitation enough.

Day was already naked so he climbed inside the tub and settled between God’s firm thighs.

“Jets or no?” God asked.

“No. This is relaxing just like this.” Day leaned back, dropped his head on God’s shoulder, and let the hot water soothe his soreness away.

“Oh shit.” Day could feel God’s growing erection poking him in his back.

“Relax, sweetheart, I’m not trying to do anything, but my dick has a mind of its own. You’re just so fucking sexy.” God kissed and licked Day’s ear.

They were quiet for a long time and Day felt like he could fall asleep again until God’s rough voice broke through his haze.

“You want to talk about it?”

Day took a deep breath and thought carefully about his answer. God massaged his shoulders with his strong hands and Day almost said he didn’t want to talk; he just wanted keep being massaged. But there was something really important he needed to say.

“Cash. Thank you for yesterday.” Day spun around in God’s arms and faced him. “I’ve never been that scared in my life. At first I felt that if I died it would be okay, because I died while I was in love and the last thing I saw was your eyes. But when you said what you said.” Day placed his palm over God’s heart, felt the rapid beat there, and closed his eyes. “You said you’d have no soul, no conscience, and you’d take your revenge. That’s when I got scared.”

God cast his eyes down.

“You have to promise me. If anything ever happens to me that you’d go on. That’s the only way I’d die in peace. You’d live for me. That you’d mourn me and then go on and love again. You’ve come so far in your life. The things you’ve endured made you strong. Some men have gone through less and it drove them to do unthinkable things because they couldn’t handle what life dealt them. But you lived through it and now you’re a highly respected detective.” Day gripped God’s chin and lifted his head. He kissed him passionately. “And you’re the man I love.”

Day didn’t need God to answer him in words, his eyes and his kiss said it all. He told Day that he’d live for him.

God cared for his body; washed, massaged, caressed, and kissed him until Day was completely pliant and ready to lie back down.

Nothing else would need to be said about what happened in that hangar. They were partners and now they had an understanding. God told him that the file he’d gotten from the captain the other day was his medical proxy. He’d made Day his official. Day would have the authority to make any and all decisions regarding his medical care if he was ever injured on the job… or in life. God trusted him with his life and Day trusted him too. Enough said.

After a long nap they woke midafternoon with no idea what to do with themselves. They had two mandatory weeks off. God wasn’t pleased with that at all, especially since their five-year anniversary as partners was coming up soon. That was a big deal for cops. Partners came and went all the time, but God and Day had been rock solid from the beginning. Five years with the same partner was a huge milestone celebrated throughout the department.

Day rolled his eyes and asked God to relax when the big man kept getting up and pacing around the house. God said he didn’t want to lose momentum at work. Although they’d got the kingpin there were always more. The war on drugs was never ending.

Day had grabbed him and thrown him down on the floor in the den and sucked him off after God threw the remote control across the room and screamed that reality television was the stupidest shit anyone ever thought of. After the blowjob, Day took the remote and found a good action flick.

When it was over God rose and stretched his long body. “I’ll fix us some lunch,” he said and headed toward the kitchen.

Day’s eyes widened and he shot up from his relaxed position, chasing after God. He barreled past him.

“No. I’ll fix us lunch!” he practically yelled.

God quirked one eyebrow and stepped slowly away from the refrigerator.

Day calmed himself and lowered his voice to sound more nonchalant.

“I mean you made breakfast, it’s only fair.” Day shrugged and went about pulling out the fixings for some subs.
