If God was nervous about catching some flak for being out and gay, no one in their precinct was showing it. Probably because who God was fucking was inconsequential to what was happening on the streets every day, and he was glad that he worked with a group of people that were smart enough to realize it.

After what seemed like a very long time Day and God sat down at their desks, anxious to get back to work. After the captain had finally gotten everyone to calm down they all behaved like Day and God had never been gone.

About one in the afternoon the captain called Day and God into his office with two of the city’s Assistant District Attorneys to ask them about joining in on the interrogations of some of the eighty-five dockworkers who were confirmed to have worked for Hansen. The mayor was encouraging all law-enforcement departments to keep putting the hammer down on drug dealers. Although they’d cut the head off a very large snake, it might not be long before another one took up habitation in its place. Day and God were eager to accept. Besides, Day loved keeping his interrogation skills sharp.

Once that quick meeting was over, they both headed to the break room for more coffee for Day.

Of course.

“I’m gone for only two weeks and look at this mess,” Day grumbled while wiping off the counter around his coffee maker.

God gulped his apple juice and leaned over Day to look at the nonexistent mess.

“Babe, I don’t see anything.” God propped his arm against the cabinets and watched Day huffing while taking inventory of how much coffee was left.

Day’s cup was just about done brewing and he and God were staring at each other when Ronowski and Johnson came into the break room together. Day turned and looked at them both with a ridiculous look on his face.

Johnson went to the fridge and pulled out a can of soda while Ronowski stood there fidgeting nervously. God put his hand on Day’s shoulder telling him to put the poor guy out of his misery.

“How’s Vikki doing?” Day asked Ronowski. “Have you seen her?”

When Ronowski snapped his head up Day and God both sucked in a sharp breath at the huge hickey next to his Adam's apple. Johnson stared at them from over Ronowski’s head silently asking them not to rib him.

No doubt the guy was still working on understanding and accepting his attraction to men, not to mention acting on it.

“Uhh. Yeah, I… umm… we went and saw her yesterday. She starts her PT next month so she’s doing well. She’ll be on desk duty for a while, and she’s definitely not happy about that.” Ronowski grinned shyly. “She wants to see you both… ya know… to thank you.”

Johnson stepped closer behind Ronowski and his nearness seemed to relax him, because he looked Day in his eyes.

“I wanted to say thank you too. You both were nothing short of awesome that day and everyone knows it… including me.” Ronowski stuck his hand out to Day.

Day put his coffee down, gripped Ronowski’s hand, and pulled him into his chest startling the hell out of all of them. Day slapped the young man a few times on his back before releasing him. Day smiled broadly when Ronowski turned and smiled lovingly at Johnson.

The captain walked into the room and all four of them looked at him with grins on their faces.

Captain shook his head and moved to grab a muffin.

“For fuck’s sake. What the hell is this; the champagne room now?”

“Yeah, except there’s no champagne… only shame,” Day said drily and gulped his coffee.

Ronowski laughed loudly and all heads turned to look at him. He cleared his throat quickly and tried to shrink back behind Johnson’s huge figure.

Captain came to stand in front of them. “What do you and God got planned for the fourth?”

“Nothing comes to mind,” Day responded first. “Why, what’s up?”

“Ronowski’s going to do some surveillance that he and Seasel had set up a few weeks back on a small-time meth dealer in Buckhead. Since the fourth is next week, Seasel won’t be in the field by then. So I want you and God to do the surveillance with him.”

Day snapped his fingers loudly as if a memory just hit him. “Oh shit. Did you say the fourth… uh… uh… I thought you said the fortieth,” Day stammered jokingly. “Sorry, we're completely booked.”

God popped Day in the back of the head and saw Ronowski grin from behind Johnson and raise his middle finger at Day. “And no fucking in the backseat, Day… this is going to be real surveillance going on.” Ronowski joked back.

Day couldn’t help but laugh too. God was so glad Day and Ronowski had called a truce… work was a much better place this way.
