“I earned it.”
“If you’re going to get it, do it soon. Before the place goes up in flames,” Victor said.
Huh?
“Victor!” Regent snapped.
“What? You mean Jilly doesn’t know your plan to raze the club to the ground because some of the clients there and the staff saw her breasts?”
“Victor,” Regent said in a deathly cold voice. Even though it was clear he was furious, he didn’t yell.
But now her appetite was gone again. “Regent! You don’t plan to do that, do you?”
“Of course I do.”
“That . . . that’s ridiculous!” she cried. “You can’t do that!”
“I can and I will.”
“Well, I won’t let you!”
He narrowed his gaze at her. But she managed to hold her ground.
He won’t hurt you.
“You aren’t doing it. It was my choice to dance there.”
“They saw your breasts!” he snapped.
“So? You know, this is very hypocritical of you considering you got a lap dance from one of the dancers!”
“I did not. What are you talking about?” he asked.
“I saw you! When I was there as Nyx! Seven took you out back to where the private dances are.”
Regent ran his hand over his face. “I forgot about that.”
“Kimmy,” Victor muttered.
“You got a lap dance from Kimmy?” She didn’t have any right to feel betrayed. But she couldn’t stop herself from feeling that way.
“No, I was questioning Kimmy.”
She gave him a startled look. “What?”
“I paid for a lap dance, but that was so I could get a few minutes with her. I never let her near me.”
Relief flooded her. But it still didn’t make sense. “What were you questioning her about?”
Regent looked at Victor for a moment. “About her boyfriend.”
“Trip?”
Both men tensed and she glanced between them. “What is it?”
“Trip?” Regent asked.
“Uh-huh. That’s his name. I met him the other night.”
“The other night? When?”
“Um, well, not last weekend, but the weekend before, I guess. They were using my room to hook up. And then, no, wait, I did see him last weekend. He was in the alley when I came out of the club. I was going home. He offered to walk me to the car.”
“Did he ask you where you live? Touch you? Hurt you?” Regent asked.
“No. Nothing like that. Why?” she asked, bewildered.
“Describe him,” Victor ordered.
“I don’t know. Pale. Thin. Dark red hair. I can’t remember much else. Why?” They were scaring her.
“Could be him,” Victor said.
“I was questioning Kimmy about a guy called Patrick McMahon. Remember how I told you about Alice attempting to kill me?”
She nodded, ignoring the look of surprise that Victor sent his brother.
“Well, she was working for him. I ran him out of the city, destroyed everything he had. But he came back a while ago. He was seen at Sexy Sins because he liked a dancer there. And he was working with Carlos, Santé’s uncle.”
“From what the other girls have said, Carlos wasn’t a nice guy.”
“He wasn’t,” Victor said. “Patrick was trying to enlist help to take out Regent, but he wasn’t successful.”
“However, we still haven’t found him,” Regent said. “I wanted to talk to Kimmy to see if she’d seen or heard from him. She said no, but she must have been lying.”
“Do you think Santé knows he’s been at the club?” Victor asked.
“It’s possible. More reason to burn the place to the ground.”
“No! You can’t do that. Think of everyone that works there.”
He stared at her stubbornly.
“I have friends who work there.”
“Like who?” he asked.
“Well, um, there was one bouncer who was nice to me.”
“And who was that?” he drawled dangerously.
Crap.
“His name is Keegan.” She raised her chin. “He’s a nice guy and he needs that job.”
“Don’t worry about Keegan. He has another job.”
“He does?”
He grunted. “He works for me. Just how nice was he, though?”
“Regent! You cannot be jealous because Keegan looked out for me. Wait, he works for you? So, he was at the club . . .”
“Undercover. Yes. I was actually going to ask him you . . . about Nyx, I mean. But I didn’t end up needing to.”
Holy. Heck.
Keegan was a spy?
“So there is no reason I can’t destroy the club.”
“I won’t allow it, Regent.”
Regent leaned forward. “It will happen.”
“Look, it’s possible Santé didn’t know about Trip or Patrick. He and Kimmy were in my private dressing room. I never saw him any other time, other than in the alley. Please don’t do this. I don’t like it.”
She let her lip wobble.
He glared, then sighed. “I can’t believe I’m doing this. You will not always get your way.”
She rarely got her way.
“I think I better leave.” Victor got up, ignoring Regent’s glare. He almost looked a bit relieved.
Perhaps he hadn’t wanted to blow up the club or set it on fire or whatever they had planned.
“I’ll call off burning the place,” Victor said. “And bring in Kimmy.”
She didn’t like the idea of Kimmy being questioned. But this Patrick sounded like bad news.
