This time, William looked at him. “What do you mean, you ran?” he asked.

“I ran. You know, we did it, and then I lasted three times, and I saw the blood, and I freaked out, and I ran, and I’ve not seen or heard from Darcy since.” Joe blew out a breath. “I’m a terrible mate and boyfriend, or whatever the hell I am.” He collapsed his face onto his hands and wanted to sob.

“Okay, I didn’t think I had raised you to run away.”

“It’s not like I meant to run away. I don’t know how I’m going to face her.” Joe groaned. “She’s used to men rejecting her because she thinks she’s boring.” Just thinking that made him groan even more. “Ugh, she is going to think I don’t want to be with her, and that I was bored, which is why I didn’t last.”

William put a hand on his shoulder. “Stop.”

Joe already knew he had said too much just by looking at his dad.

“A man’s first time … it would be rare for him to last longer than a few minutes, and it wasn’t just your first time, you were also with your mate. Now, I’m not going to excuse your behavior. At no point do you ever leave your woman like that, even if you’re not happy with your own performance. That is on you, and you need to learn to own up to that.” William glared at him. “You’re going to tell me what you’re going to do to fix this.”

Joe looked toward his dad. “Hope you don’t tell Mom about this.”

“Besides that,” William said.

“I’m going to beg Darcy for forgiveness.” He’d missed her all day long.

“Exactly. Now, get up off your ass, stop drinking my lemonade, and go and make everything right with your mate.”

He got to his feet and then looked toward his dad. “You’re not going to tell Mom, are you?”

“Son, go and do as you’re told.”

Joe gritted his teeth. His dad was totally going to tell his mother.

“You know, I had the strangest time with Darcy today,” Callie said, approaching the bed. She looked at her husband, who she knew was wanting some fun time. Their daughter, Lucy, was away at her friend’s, which meant they had the house all to themselves. Joe lived over the garage, so they didn’t even have to be quiet.

Having kids was amazing, and she loved her family so much, but there were times they were little … cock blocks and scream blocks. Trying to be quiet while her world was being blown apart with absolute pleasure was so hard.

“Was she?”

Callie looked toward her husband and smiled. He was trying to be evasive, which meant he knew something.

“Yeah, and she smelled so much like Joe today. I know she tried to mask it, but her perfume could not hide the scent of that boy.”

She let out a little cry as William suddenly had his arms wrapped around her.

Callie burst out laughing as his mouth went to her neck, and he began to lick and suck at the tender flesh. Arousal hit her hard and fast and she didn’t want him to stop.

“You and I both know why Joe smelled like Darcy, and Darcy smelled like Joe,” he said.

“When are they going to tell us and the rest of the pack?” she asked.

“When they’re ready.” William began to move her toward the bed and then he dropped her down. Callie was more than willing. It had been too long since she and William had the house alone together.

“I can’t wait,” she said.

Watching Joe leave seven years ago had been so hard, but she understood that was what he needed to do, and she tried to be supportive. Now that he was back, she never wanted to see him leave again. The very thought of it filled her with dread. It would be good to see him settle down, fall in love, mate, have children, and she couldn’t think of a better woman to do that with, than Darcy Pine.

Darcy frowned at the knock on her door. Staring down at her current knitting project, she had already finished her row of knit stitch, and she was just about to begin the purl stitch. She put it away to go and see who was at the door.

Callie had opted to close the shop early today, so Darcy had gotten home early. She’d already eaten some food. She made herself a sandwich, and then opted to snack on some ice cream as that was meant to be the cure for all emotional ills, and today had been tough.

She had spent every single waking moment thinking about … Joe. Even when she promised herself she wouldn’t, she had.

The morning had been on constant repeat, and she couldn’t figure out how to get it out of her head.
