“So.” I shrugged as I opened my eyes, and pulled away from her.

“Daimon…”

“Just shut up. It’s not every day I get the woman I love back,” I murmured to her, not caring who the fuck was staring at us.

Bringing Her Back Home

Driving home with Addie beside me felt like I was fucking dreaming. I would look over to her periodically, just to see her face—her stunning, wondrous face. A light smile played on her lips as she looked out the window and held my hand. The warmth of her touch made my heartbeat as though it had gone deliriously crazy. What the fuck did I ever do to have such a beautiful creature in my life?

“We’re here,” she said as she turned to me and smiled contently. I smiled back as I left the car idling for one of the attendants to come out and park it for me.

“Ms. Addie!” Phil called out as he waved at her.

Phil had gotten on my last nerve the few months Addie wasn’t around. He hounded me nearly every day asking me about her. I had told him Addie had gone on a long vacation. He almost believed it until one day when he cornered me and told me in not such a subtle way, that if I had hurt her, he’d hurt me. I had to give it to him; he had balls. He knew I was his boss and that I could easily fire him, which I told him, but he said he didn’t care. That Ms. Addie was special.

“How have you been?” Phil asked, his face beaming. Fucker.

“I’ve been great. More than great.” Addie laughed as she spoke to him. I joined in, shaking my head for getting jealous of my own doorman.

“Ms. Addie, if Mr. Evans does anything ever again…”

“Easy, Phil, I let it go once. I’m not about to let it go again,” I warned.

“Noted,” Phil said quietly.

Addie smiled as she took my hand and dragged me inside before I could fire the asshole.

“Don’t pout,” Addie said as we stood by the elevator.

“I’m not pouting,” I said through my teeth. Addie giggled as the elevator doors opened.

“Sure you’re not.” How the fuck was she able to erase my anger with just her little giggle?

Drako ran to her the very moment she walked in. He jumped and barked softly as he tried to make her touch him.

“He grew!” she exclaimed, kneeling to pet him.

“He did.” My gaze fixed firmly on her as she showered him with affection.

“I’m sorry, Drako. I should have come back once in a while,” she said softly to him as he whined. “Maybe I should take you for a walk?” She rose and looked down at him. I put my hand on the wall stopping her from going further.

“Not now,” I growled.

“But, Daimon…”

“Not now,” I snapped as I pulled on her arm, threw her over my shoulder and carried her upstairs.

I closed the door of our bedroom and walked her over to our bed. I placed her down gently. My heart beating rapidly, my body acted strangely.

“Daimon, what’s wrong?” she whispered. She looked straight at me as I knelt before her at the edge of the bed.

“What if I fuck this up again? I can’t lose you again.” my voice lowered and my heart wrenched in pain at the very thought of her leaving me again.

“Just be the Daimon I know. Just be you.” Her voice carried on a whisper as she reached for my face.

“Addie, the only Daimon I know is a controlling asshole,” I admitted.

“And? I kind of like the asshole you,” she said lightly. “Daimon, just don’t lie to me. Don’t manipulate everything. Let me in. Let me be the only one you can trust.”

“Trust? Trust? Baby girl, you are the only one I trust, the only one who matters. The world around me, the world I created can burn down and disappear as long as I have you in my life, nothing else fucking matters,” I said in a hushed voice as I looked into her eyes. A hard lump formed and I could hardly breathe.

“Daimon, you’re shaking.” Panic laced her words. “Why are you shaking?”

“I…” no more lies with Addie, “I'm fucking scared, Addie. I don’t know how I can love you the right way, but I want to, fuck I want to.” I shook my head in disbelief that I would even admit that to her.

“Daimon…” She took my hand and placed it on her chest, above her heart. “Feel it. Do you feel it? It’s beating like crazy, because I'm scared too,” she said earnestly. Releasing the breath caught in my throat, I reached out for Addie’s face.

I rose from my knees and placed my forehead onto hers. I closed my eyes taking in her honey-like scent. Taking in one more deep breath, both of us simply stayed in our moment. I opened my eyes to see hers were still closed. As I lifted her chin with my finger, I smiled and kissed her.
