“You signed up?” Lucas asked, shocked. “Colt. You know what kind of game it is. How on earth did you think that was a good idea?”

I watched them like a tennis match, and I could feel the tension increasing in my brain.

“Trust me,” was all Colt said.

“Meanwhile, we subs still don’t know shit,” I said. I’d logged on every day to see if there was any new info about Saturday. Instead, last time, I was met by a stupid note that said everything the Tops needed to know had been forwarded to them. “Fuck what we think, right?”

Abel winced. “Kit…”

Colt was leaving the booth, and I quirked a brow at him, wondering what he was up to. Our entrees would be here soon. But he didn’t have to answer. He simply grabbed my arm and yanked me out of the booth.

“Hey!”

“Quiet,” he gritted out. To the others, he said, “Kit and I are gonna get some fresh air. We’ll be right back.”

Mortification nearly crippled me, and my heart started pounding. Some guests were watching us; one was even smirking. Shithead. Anger spiked quickly.

“It hurts,” I hissed. “Let go of my arm.”

“Watch your fuckin’ mouth, boy.”

Colt ushered me outside the restaurant and didn’t stop until we were between two buildings across the street. A rush of adrenaline coursed through me, and it felt like it was trying to battle the fear that gripped me too.

“You’re not bein’ a brat in there. You know that, right?” He let go of me and put himself between me and the mouth of the alley. “You’re plain disrespectful.”

I snapped my mouth shut and folded my arms over my chest as I broke eye contact.

What was wrong with me? I knew I’d been beyond rude in there. And it wasn’t the first time I had acted out. I’d let my frustrations set the tone for days now, and it happened more frequently. I was impolite and discourteous to Lucas for no reason, and I came at Colt as if he were a console with nothing but buttons for me to push.

“I don’t know why I’m doing it.” I swallowed hard and stared at my feet. “I know I’ve crossed the line.” Saying that dealt a crushing blow to my heart, and emotions threatened to spill over.

I crossed the line.

Oh God. This was how they would get tired of me. This was how I’d become too much for them.

“Well…that depends on what line you’re referrin’ to, Kit.”

I frowned up at him, even though it meant he could see I was getting teary-eyed. “There’s only one line.”

“That ain’t true.” He took a step closer. “Take safewords, for instance. Calling red doesn’t mean the relationship is over. Just the playtime. Same with this line. You’ve been bad tonight, and Lucas and I will punish you for it. But remember last time? When you’ve taken the punishment, it’s all good again.”

“Until I fuck up too often, and you get sick of it.”

He narrowed his eyes at me, and I broke away again. I couldn’t face him. The tension was drilling into my head. It hurt. It hurt…and I didn’t know how to stop it.

When he took another step toward me, I took one backward. Because if he touched me now, or got too close, I would explode. Strung tight and not knowing why, I did all I could to hold myself together.

“Don’t work against me, Kit,” he warned. “You don’t wanna do that. You don’t want this to turn into a self-fulfilling prophecy. Lucas and I haven’t given the slightest indication that we’re gonna leave, so don’t shove us out the fuckin’ door.” It took him three steps to cage me in and push my pulse through the roof. “Look at me.”

“I don’t want to,” I croaked.

“Yes, you do. You’re just afraid. Fucking look at me.”

I clenched my jaw and blinked hard, feeling two tears rolling down my cheeks, and then I looked up.

“I belong in there.” He tapped my temple. “That’s where I wanna be, as your Daddy and as your Owner.”

Holy fuck, he was breaking me. I shook my head. “You take too much.” I sniffled. “I’m already yours, goddammit. Where does that leave me? Huh? I will have no control.”

“Correct,” he was quick to say. “You won’t be in control whatsoever. But as to where that leaves you…? It leaves you with me and Luke. We hold the leash that you allow us to put on you, and if you stopped wanting that…” He sighed and placed his palms along the sides of my face. “It’s you, Kit. You’re the one we’ve been waiting for. You’re the one I lost hope of finding, but Lucas believed. And he found you. And…” He shook his head and licked his lips and looked away for a second. “The only way to get rid of us is to push us away.”
