I roll my eyes.

“Don’t roll your eyes. I’m being serious.”

Before I can say anything else, the waitress approaches our table with the check.

I reach for my wallet as Cody pulls his out.

“Oh, hell no,” he says. “You got it last time.”

“It’s fine.”

“No, no. I’ve got it.”

He snatches the check.

“Don’t make me cause a scene,” he says with a wink.

I grin, and once again, I notice that he has a talent for making me smile.

I really have been lucky with finding friends. First Derek and Gary. Now Cody.

Although, with him, I’ve gotten to enjoy some fun perks outside of the friendship.

“I can’t believe you fucked a twink with Hayden,” Travis says to me as we run on the treadmill beside each other. “And I can’t believe you didn’t tell me about it.”

I glance his way, ignoring the bead of sweat that rolls into my eye, making it sting. “What? You’re the sharing kind of best friend now? You went and fell in love with Gary and now you want to have big long heart-to-hearts?”

He scoffs in a way that is so Travis I can’t help but chuckle.

“I don’t want to have a heart-to-heart with you. I want to talk about the fact that you double penetrated a sailor with Gary’s friend.”

Fucking Travis. The truth is, I know he wouldn’t mind heart-to-hearts a little more than he likes to let on. Falling for Gary has changed him in some ways. “I would have told you,” I say. Or maybe I wouldn’t have. I’m not sure. It’s not that I don’t share things with Travis because I do. And it’s not as if I didn’t tell Doc and don’t know Hayden talked to his friends about it as well but…fuck, maybe it’s because Hayden is my friend and that friendship made it feel like something a little more than just a random hookup.

“But you didn’t.”

“I figured Gary would.”

“Only because he thought you’d already told me.”

He sure as shit doesn’t sound as winded as I do, and I sort of want to punch him because of it. “So…I double penetrated a twink with Hayden,” I say and Travis shakes his head.

“Fucker,” he mumbles, and then the bastard increases the speed. I appreciate being in good shape, but I’m not the gym rat that Travis is. I’m ready to veg on the couch and maybe eat some of Hayden’s cookies.

We finish our jog and talk about work and shit like that. Nothing important. He doesn’t ask for any more details, and I’m glad. I make a point to discuss my sex life often with Travis, so the fact that I don’t want to discuss this is a little strange.

“How’s Doc doing?” he asks when he finally steps off the machine.

“Good. He’s Doc,” I reply, but the truth is I am a little worried about him. I know he’s trying to pretend that his having to quit tattooing doesn’t bother him as much as it does, but I know it’s bullshit. I know he wants to bust out of his skin with his need to create art on people’s bodies.

Travis runs his towel over his face, wiping the sweat off as we head toward the locker room. “Gary said Hayden’s helping Doc with numbers and shit too.”

Which is a big weight off my chest. It feels good to know we have someone we can trust checking over shit. “Yeah. He’s fucking good at that shit. It’s pretty cool to watch. He’s like this really talented baking mathematician or some shit.” Who’s working as a waiter. Again, no judgment because I don’t give a shit what anyone does as long as they’re happy, but I think Hayden wants something different. He’s just not willing to do anything about it.

“A baking mathematician? What’s wrong with you? You’re being weird.”

Me? He’s the one who suddenly wants to be all chatty about life. “I’m not being weird. You’re being weird.”

“No, you are. How am I being weird?”

“I don’t know, how am I?” I counter.

“Because.” He groans. “Never mind. I don’t have time to play games with you.”

I knew I would win. Travis isn’t the most patient person I know.

The second we step outside, he nods in the direction of Metropolis. “Come on. Time for the cooldown.”

I swear this guy is obsessed. It’s sort of adorable, but he’s also making Gary workout obsessed as well.

Our jog back to the condo is pretty leisurely. He doesn’t bring up Hayden again, the thought probably gone from his head.

When we get back to Metropolis, we say our good-byes. As I close the door to the condo, I realize it’s empty. There’s a plate of old cookies on the counter, and I can’t help but wonder when Hayden is going to restock our supply.

I make my way to the shower first, let the hot water knead my skin, jerk off, and then get out. After pulling on a pair of blue sweats that are a little big and hang low on my hips, I make my way to the kitchen where I try to figure out what in the hell to make for dinner.
