Seems like someone’s luck has run out and it isn’t mine. The ride to Vegas is quiet for the most part, Dwayne understanding me enough to leave me to my thoughts. Or it could be that he’s been stewing in his own.

I’m grateful when the Vegas skyline comes into view. Any longer and I would probably have broken my knuckles from cracking them in anticipation and impatience. The tension from my anger is already suffocating within the confines of this vehicle.

Once on the strip, I have to chant to myself to keep my cool. Dwayne pulls into the parking lot of the hotel and casino Tom is staying at and an eerie calm falls over the car.

After parking, Dwayne and I head back out to the street and stroll right into the back of the hotel. We nod at the head of security, who happens to be a friend of Dwayne’s. It’s good to know people and have connections.

We take the service elevator up to the suite housing the asshole who thought it was a good idea to try to slap my wife with a lawsuit. I’m fuming as we walk into his suite as the same security guard lets us in. This entitled piece of shit truly thinks he runs the world.

“What… what’s going on?” he asks, squinting at us as we walk over and sit on either side of him as he watches two young women fuck each other in front of him.

Tom has to be in his midforties. Blond with blue eyes, but he looks like a ferret. Not an attractive guy at all in my book.

“Time to go, girls,” Dwayne barks.

The two look at him and then at Tom. Tom is too busy looking between Dwayne and myself. He looks like he’s about to shit his boxers.

“He didn’t stutter. Get your things and go,” I say.

The two scramble to get their things and leave. Once they’re gone, I take off my shades and push the hood from my head. I turn to look Tom in the eyes.

He relaxes, releasing a heavy breath. “Oh, thank God,” he breathes out. “I thought my bookie sent you. I’m only a day late—”

I elbow him across the face, shutting him up. I remember not liking this guy when I went to the New York office. He was a total asshole and the biggest reason I didn’t work with their firm.

“Shut the fuck up,” I bite out. “You disgust me. You thought you could ruin a woman’s life and career just because she wouldn’t open her legs to you?”

“She’s a gold digger. I introduced her to deep pockets and she was all smiles. I only wanted my turn to sample—”

“Say another word and I’ll knock your fucking teeth down your throat,” I growl.

He closes his mouth, but his head bobs between me and Dwayne. Dwayne bares his teeth at him. He’s not going to find an ally in this room.

I continue. “I’m going to tell you how this is going to go. You’re going to drop the suit. You’re also going to present Saga with a nice severance package. It will include wages from the date of her last paycheck and cover the next five years.”

“I’ll do no such thing,” he says indignantly.

I pop him in the forehead with my palm. His eyes grow wide and he starts to shrink into himself. Good, he’s hearing me now.

I hate talking for no reason. I don’t talk just to waste my breath. He needs to hear every damn word I’m about to say.

“I’m not asking. I’m telling you. You’re also going to give her direct credit for all the campaigns she has done for your firm to place you guys where you are. As a matter of fact, I’m thinking a charity event.

“You’ll give ten percent of every dollar she’s ever made you. All that will cover some of the pain and suffering, but I’m not done. You see, originally, I was going to come here and beat your fucking ass.

“Then, I thought about it. I know a much better way to hurt you. You’ve been blackballed. I have bigger friends than you do, in much higher places.

“Good luck trying to dig your way out of this hole once you pay my wife what you owe her. I want you to know how she felt for six months after you tried to ruin her life,” I seethe.

“You… you can’t do this,” he pleads.

“It’s done. Tell your partners that they may want to find a new living. Being connected to you from this point on is like being connected to shit. I’m coming for your livelihood just like you did my wife’s,” I reply.

“I’ll lose everything.”

“Karma’s a bitch, but I’m letting you off easy. That bruise on your face is nothing compared to what I really want to do to you.
