“In that case, bring it on. I’m ready if you are. Let’s give them something to talk about,” I say, repeating words he once said to me.

“I hope you mean that, baby, ’cause they’re gonna talk,” he says, that worry returning.

“I don’t give up easily when I want something. I think we’ll be just fine.”

“We have a lot in common already. I never give up on what I want,” he says. His voice drops and his words come out huskily.

“We shall see.”

Bishop

It took everything in me not to strip down and climb into that tub with Saga. If I’m not mistaken, I saw disappointment in her eyes when I had to take a call right after helping her into the bath.

I haven’t spoken to my mother in so long I decided against ignoring her call. Now, I wish I had. Knowing that I’ll be returning home soon, she wants to throw me a party, which is code for setting me up with someone.

“Mom, I’m fine with the party. I’m just warning you that I’m not interested in whoever you have lined up to throw at me,” I say into the phone.

“Who says I’m going to throw someone at you?”

“Okay, you’re talking to Bishop, not Knight or Prince,” I scoff.

“Would it hurt for you to find a nice girl to settle down with?” she asks in irritation.

“Who says I haven’t?”

“Do you mean the girl in the pictures?”

I’m not sure I like her tone. My guard goes up right away. I’m well aware that Saga’s gorgeous brown skin will be an issue for some. I could give two fucks and anyone who tries to make it an issue to my face will have a problem.

“Is it a problem if I say yes?” I reply.

“What do you know about her? Do you know who she is? Do you know who her family is? Do you—”

“What does any of that matter?” I snap.

“Bishop, you watch your tone with me. I’m still your mother. I’m not asking those questions to be a bitch,” she tosses back.

“Then why?”

“Because I do know her family. This is such a small world. I can’t believe you two have never met before this. Bishop…

“I don’t get the impression from Doctor Walden that he’d be okay with his daughter dating a musician. You have a battle on your hands to have this one in your life,” she says.

“A battle I’m willing to take on.”

“So you are involved. She’s beautiful and very intelligent. Her father’s pride and joy. I can’t tell you the number of dinners I’ve been to and heard him dote on her relentlessly,” my mother says.

“She’s all of that and more. She’s the one,” I blurt out.

“Oh, honey. Dr. Walden is a good friend of your dad’s, but I’ve always gotten the feeling that he wants his children to marry… Black. I… I don’t want to see you hurt,” she says cautiously. “What if she doesn’t want to go against her father’s wishes? You’re my son—”

“Mom,” I call, cutting her off. “Saga is a grown woman. She makes her own choices. I think she can handle her father.”

“I should invite her parents to the party. Maybe that will ease the situation.”

“There’s no situation, Mom,” I say and blow out a breath.

“Oh, Bishop,” she sighs. “You will learn one day that I’m always right. I’ll invite them.”

I throw my head back. Why do I bother? She’s going to do whatever she wants. She’s been driving my dad crazy for years.

“I love you, Mom. I’ll see you when I get back,” I say before she drives me crazy.

“I’m happy for you, Bishop. The music you’ve been writing for her is beautiful,” my mother says, catching me off guard. “I love you, son.”

The call ends and I’m left sitting with my mouth open. I guess I do underestimate that woman. I smile and run a hand through my hair.

“She totally busted me,” I chuckle.

“Hey.”

I look up to see Saga standing in the doorway in a black silk robe. I jump up to lift her off her feet. My room is clear on the other side of the suite.

“You should’ve called for me,” I say as I lift her into my arms.

“I told you I’m capable of walking on my own,” she says as she wraps her arms around my neck.

I sit on the edge of the bed with her in my lap. Her robe gapes open, stealing my attention. Her breasts come into view, sending blood rushing to my cock.

Reaching for the tie of her robe, I tug it free as I hold her gaze. I peel the silky fabric open, revealing her naked body beneath. Her nipples are like pieces of chocolate candy, begging me to suck them into my mouth.

“You came all this way on your own, did you need something?” I breathe.
